The Gas Processors Association - Gulf Cooperation Council, in light of its objectives and efforts to help in protecting the environment, line up its strategies with its customers needs & visions and providing best industrial practices & services for the region, has successfully organized a one day specialized technical session under the title "Zero Flaring". The subject of Zero flaring has attracted a lot of interest and attention reflected in the unexpected large number of attendees and participant, exceeding 120, since it contributes greatly in protecting the environment and saving the energy at the same time.

The event took place on November 29th, 2006, at the Le Meridien Hotel, Al-Khobar, Saudi Arabia. The main objective of the event was to stress on the need and importance of implementing flaring minimization technologies such as zero flaring & flare gas recovery and share the knowledge and experience in this area. The seminar was very specialized and focused on Zero flaring, its importance, feasibility, design, components, application and requirement. A number of flare gas recovery and zero flaring suppliers and consultants have participated in presentations in the morning session and a discussion panel in the afternoon. Saudi Aramco has participated with two presentations; one by the environmental department on environmental regulation regarding flaring & emissions and the other was by P&CSD on Saudi Aramco flaring policy road map. The high number of attendance and their strong participation in this event also reflects people's high interest in reducing or eliminating no!rmal flaring to protect the environment and improve health in the region.

As an outcome of this event, the GPA-GCC Chapter Executive Committee has decided to approach all the member companies' executive management in the GCC countries to seriously adopt the zero flaring as their road map and the way to go in order to actively participate in protecting the environment in the Globe. Accordingly, the GPA-GCC Chapter is taking the initiative to farther follow up on the issue and need for flaring minimization. Hence, the GPA-GCC Chapter is urging all its member companies to join together in continued sharing of experience and developments in regard to flaring minimization."
